As Japan goes under nationwide state of emergency due to COVID-19 coronavirus, Khara Inc. has announced the postponement of Japan release date of final Evangelion film in the Rebuild series, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 indefinitely.

Creator and director Hideaki Anno also posts a hand-written letter giving thanks to the medical workers and others who are on the front-line in this pandemic battlefront and apologising to the fans who have waited for 8 years for this new film. (3.0 You Can (Not) Redo was released in 2012.)

The first three films of the Rebuild series, 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance and 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, will be available to stream for free on the official Evangelion app, EVA-Extra (iOS and Android) from April 18 12:00 to April 30 23:59 (JST) and Khara Inc's YouTube channel in the week of April 20.

A MESSAGE FROM HIDEAKI ANNO
by his handwriting in original Japanese version

To all who were suffered from the recent Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19),
Please let me express my deepest sympathy.

Also, to all the medical staff and related persons who are still working on this case,
I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude and respect.

I feel so sorry to keep you waiting more for our new film due to unprecedented
situation, even I know well you already have waited for almost 8 years,.

I will keep my best with our indomitable spirits together with all of you,
even while we are seeing the toughest situation all over the world.

Thank you very much for your continuous support.

Hideaki Anno
Screenplay and General Director
April 17th, 2020

In the new teaser poster, the releae date has switch to "Coming soon" in place of the original planned date "June 27, 2020". Also, there is a tagline "Thrice Upon A Time" attached to it. Could it mean a 1980 sci-fi novel? Or could it be the third finale of this long-running franchise, after the TV series and old anime feature? Guess we will have to wait a few additional months to find out.
