Manchester By The Sea is a film about family and regrets. It follows Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck) returning to his hometown to take care of his nephew after his brother dies. The non-linear storytelling gives audience a hint of what happened to Chandler's past and his deteriorating relationships with his family. We also understand his remorse from his perspective. The interaction between Chandler and his teenage nephew Patrick (Lucas Hedges) is filled with smart and catchy dialogue, and offers a good balance for the heavy emotion of the backstory. Eventually, his path of salvation depends on Chandler himself. Good pacing, excellent acting and a touching family story that leaves you bitter taste.
