Hero

The highly acclaimed manga Look Back by Tatsuki Fujimoto, known for mega-hits like Chainsaw Man, is set to be adapted into a live-action feature film, directed by Hirokazu Koreeda (Shoplifters). The film is slated for release in 2026.

This is the first time a Tatsuki Fujimoto work has been adapted into a live-action film.

Look Back is an earnest coming-of-age story that follows two young girls diligently striving to become manga artists. It was published on Shonen Jump+ in 2021 and won first place in the Male Readers category of "Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2022". It was also adapted into a massive hit animated film in 2024, receiving high praise at international festivals.

Director Hirokazu Koreeda was deeply drawn to the manga, reading it in one sitting and feeling the urgency of Fujimoto's creation. After meeting with Fujimoto, Koreeda decided, "I had no choice but to do it". Fujimoto expressed full confidence in Koreeda, stating, "I have nothing more to say and am looking forward to it!".

The film will meticulously trace the 13-year journey of the two protagonists, Fujino and Kyomoto, beginning in their elementary school years, set against the backdrop of beautiful changing seasons.

Two teaser visuals have been released, captured by photographer Hideaki Hamada.

The live-action film is already confirmed for release in South Korea and Taiwan, in addition to Japan, with preparations underway for a worldwide release.
