Ton and Els moved into a new home they worked hard for with a baby on the way. Life can't be happier when their daughter was born, but the perfect life is soon shattered after their baby girl died from an uncommon disease, and the couple grew apart.

While Els tries hard to recover from the loss, Ton can't stop grieving and see Els's recovery as denial and betrayal. Even when Els wanted to have another baby as a way to heal, Ton feels alienated and slowly perceives Els as the source of his misery, up to a point that he sees only one way out of it - by killing Els.
