There is a thin line between a genius and a fool. The Disaster Artist is a story about exactly that. The film tells the behind-the-scene story about the making of "the best worst movie ever" - 2003's The Room, written, produced and directed by Tommy Wiseau. When Tommy made his attempt for an acting career, he was faced with rejection by Hollywood. So together with his best friend Greg, they made a movie called The Room. The outcome is a ridiclous film but has since become a cult classic for its poor production and funny dialogues.
The Disaster Artist showcases not just two down on their luck friends trying to get their break in acting career, this is a story about chasing dreams and friendship. James Franco has done a very good impersonation of Tommy Wiseau, and you would feel for this mad "genius" who acts like an arsehole sometimes. The film has recreated scenes from The Room faithfully. There is even a segment for scene comparisons before the credits. (And there is another segment after the credits.) The whole film is so hilarious and you would want more or watch again once it is done.
