Huacho

Huacho is slang for bastard. It is a terrible name for the fatherless pre-teen Manuel, but to him, being called a peasant by his well-to-do classmates is much, much worse. His story overlaps with his grandmother's, who makes and sells cheese by the roadside; his mother, who works as a cook for menial pay; and his grandfather, who still tends the fields despite his old age. It is a tough existence for all of them, and the warm and rewarding Huacho does not make light of their socioeconomic plight.
