A powerful feature about one of most important figures of the Beat Generation, Howl chronicles the life and struggles of Allen Ginsberg in his quest for freedom and the power of his epic poem Howl. The film begins in San Francisco in 1955, when the 29-year-old Ginsberg delivers Howl to a transfixed audience for the first time. The film follows Ginsberg's relationships with other Beat writers, falling in love with Jack Kerouac, Neil Cassidy and his eventual life partner Peter Orlovsky, to the famous obscenity trial against the publication of Howl that adds to its notoriety.
