With a simple video camera, Alain Cavalier has, in essence, made a memorial to his wife, who was lost to a car accident some 30-odd years ago. Purposefully lo-fi yet intensely personal and poignant, this seemingly simple film unearths a rich core of emotions. Irene is a loving tribute as well as a document of a man grapping with his own mortality.
