The Co(te)lette Film
// Plot_Synopsis
The Co(te)lette is a thought-provoking dance piece created by Belgian choreographer Ann Van den Broek in 2007 which won the prestigious Swan Award for the most impressive dance production in the Netherlands. Three female dancers are shown intimately in a chicken-and-egg scenario between desire and satisfaction. It is about women and flesh, beauty and perishableness, rawness and fragility. The Co(te)lette's story is restless and... empty. British director Mike Figgis' filmic adaptation of the piece makes use of the extreme intimacy of the camera and microphone, which brings into play a whole new range of possibilities like the very subtle use of the close up for facial expression, the sound of the movement, the breathing, the skin on skin contact. All the elements add up to a performance about desire, lust, fulfillment, attraction, rejection, seduction, searching, finding and not finding.
