A Woman's Revenge

The sumptuous, painterly and unabashedly theatrical adaptation of a short story from Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly's 1874 anthology Les Diaboliques, tells the tale of Roberto, a bored, decadent dandy in the nightly pursuit of ever-harder-to-find distraction. One evening, his eye is caught by a beautiful prostitute whose offer he accepts, and whom he soon comes to realise is none other than a missing noblewoman, the Countess of Sierra Leone. She begins to tell her story of a marriage without passion, treachery leading to a shocking murder and a woman's ultimate revenge.
