The Great Beauty

Swimming sinuously around the magnificent vestiges and trashy parties, we meet Jep Gamberdella, played by Sorrentino’s regular collaborator Toni Servillo, an irresistibly charming journalist of pensionable age who made his reputation with a novel he wrote in his early twenties and nothing else. Living in a luxurious apartment overlooking the Coliseum and knowing almost everyone in town, Jeb's sophistication in high life makes him view the world with bitter lucidity, leading to scenes of absurdity and acidity arrayed in Sorrentinoesque satires. Electrified by an expected event, Jep is forced to face his haunted past, and once again decides to pick up his long lost pen.
