1917, on the borders of Italy and Austro-Hungary. It is the height of the conflict and Jacob is a fresh recruit sent to man a remote but vital communications outpost. When an artillery strike obliterates his position and kills the rest of his squad, Jacob is left to defend his post and protect the only other survivor - his seriously injured commanding officer, Captain Kopetzky.
