The Disciple

When frail, 13-year-old Karl arrives at a remote island lighthouse, here he is to work as assistant, he is immediately rejected by lighthouse master Hasselbond. Karl refuses to leave and befriends the master's son, Gustaf. However, when Karl's hard work around the island is finally noticed by Hasselbond, he begins to favour him over his own boy. Gustaf's friendship turns to rivalry and coupled with the master's controlling work ethic, violence soon bubbles to the surface of this strained, unconventional family.
