Aferim!

Set in mid-19th century Wallachia, a constable and his son go in search of a runaway Gypsy slave who has jumped the boyar's wife. Their picaresque journey reveals a time of immeasurable injustice rife with prejudices, ignorance and cowardice, though precarious existences are often peppered with colourful jokes and wisecracks. By the time the boyar parcels out justice, no audience will be shocked by either cruelty or the limits of human kindness.
