Since Takk..., Sigur Ros's music is approaching the mainstream, and "Hljómalind", the first single off Hvarf-Heim, proves that they can do exactly that. A-side "Hljómalind" was written around the time of their second album, Ágætis Byrjun, and it keeps the surging in usual Sigur Ros music with a more mature arrangement. This newly recorded version gives the similarity of U2 and Coldplay, the melody is touching, simple and direct. It seems like it is a step forward from "Hoppípolla". This is Sigur Ros's pop moment.
B-side is the acoustic version of "Starálfur" from their second album, Ágætis Byrjun. Frontman Jónsi's vocal performance is more stand-out on this version, with only piano, strings and acoustic guitar. Even with the sfx effects dropped out, it keeps the song intact.
