When two bands full of creative ideas touring together, you would expect something excellent to come. So all of a sudden, here comes this "Split Tour 7" EP", with each band covering one song.
LCD Soundsystem provides their Joy Division cover, "No Love Lost". The band put in lots of LCD Soundsystem's signature guitars and synthesisers. James Murphy's vocal is quite similar to that of Ian Curtis here.
B-sides is the Arcade Fire's cover of "Poupée De Cire/Poupée De Son", which was composed by Serge Gainsbourg for France Gall. When this 1965 Eurovision winning song falls into the hands of Arcade Fire, they transcend the song's beauty into an exciting anthem for fan-fare with guitars, percussions and thunders of drums. It seems like the outro guitar parts and harmony are there to remind listeners that it is Arcade Fire, and not just yet another cover band.
Two different bands put in the same kind of live energy into the songs. At the same time, both songs point out why the two bands are different: LCD Soundsystem give people the feeling they are in some small gloomy apartments listening to lo-fi electronics music, while Arcade Fire's music is out there in the countryside. The greatness of this 7" vinyl is to capture the difference of two excellent bands.
