Red Army

A documentary about Soviet Hockey and the rise and fall of its championship Army team in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. The narrative is anchored by a charismatic protagonist - Viacheslav "Slava" Fetisov - who grew up as an Army hockey protégé and after decades as a star became Russian Minister of Sports. Yet Polsky also manages to combine rare glimpses inside the communist sport systems with an understanding of sports as a national obsession and, of course, of the joys and passions of those who actually play on the ice.
