Anne (Juliette Binoche), a well-off, Paris-based mother of two and investigative journalist for ELLE magazine, is writing an article about student prostitution. She meets Alicja (Joanna Kulig), a Polish student whose persona is troubling and seductive and Charlotte (Anaïs Demoustier), a French woman, more reserved and viewing her prostitution as part of a bitter social struggle. Having "clients" allows the two women to continue their studies. Her meetings with these two fiercely independent young women, are profound and unsettling, moving her to question her most intimate convictions about money, family and sex.
