Nebraska is a father and son road trip, from Billings, Montana to Lincoln, Nebraska that gets waylaid at a small town in central Nebraska, where the father grew up and has scores to settle. Told with deadpan humour and a unique visual style, it's ultimately the story of a son trying to get through to a father he doesn't understand. After receiving a sweepstakes letter in the mail, a cantankerous father (Bruce Dern) thinks he's struck it rich, and wrangles his son (Will Forte) into taking a road trip to claim the fortune. Shot in black and white across four states, Nebraska tells the stories of family life in the heartland of America.

After her father's death, Hatsumi (Aoi Yoshikura) moves to a small town with her mother. Struggling to fit into her new small town life, she finds a kindred spirit in young garbage collector Ryutaro (Yuya Yagira).
