Plot Synopsis
When they first meet, neither of them can prepare for what will happen.
Yu (Shu Qi) is a young, aggressive Beijing-based real estate agent from Hong Kong having an affair with a married man who also happens to be her boss.
Tung (Liu Ye) is an honest but overly-straight policeman in his midlife crisis, who remains single in order to take care of his kid brother.
They first meet at a karaoke lounge. Tung becomes infatuated with Yu, even finding her pronunciation of his name the most dulcet tune he has ever heard, whilst Yu is wrestling with being dumped by her boss and fired from her job at the same time. She eventually runs off to Hong Kong after borrowing almost Tung's entire savings.
Several years go by before Yu realises Tung is the one for her. She returns to Beijing to look for Tung, only to find him dying of vascular dementia. Yu decides to live with Tung and take care of him for the rest of his life.
On one rainy day, Tung is out walking and forgets the road home. By the time Tung is eventually admitted to hospital, he is already terminally ill and cannot even remember his own name. Only when Yu comes to his bedside and starts whispering his name in his ear does Tung remember distinctly her voice - and her - again.
